I went according to the instructions in the manual, but how come when I shut the system off and turn it on I have to keep entering the time & date???
Shouldnt it be locked into memory???

You may be making the same mistake I made on my first STS. The manual says to flip DIP switch 8 to retain memory, but I did'nt see where it said to also flip the little blue battery switch on as well. That keeps it from losing program data when power cycles, but I have'nt thought to look to see if it keeps the current time as well. Maybe that's it though.

i just tried it...i set the battery dipswitch to on.
then shut off the system and repowered...it retained the time & date..
VODAVI needs to simplfy that manual...Have you installed the vm card yet???
Do you need a laptop to configure it??

You have to have switch 8 in the right position and the battery switch has to be on. Switch 8 has to be the proper position as well because in one position it will default programming even if the battery switch is on.
When you shut off the system, the system loses all programming. Including the date. You should be losing all programming for buttons, ringing, timers, etc.... I gather the system probably comes up in default mode after each power down.
Tip and ring, the work of the devil!

Glad that helped, I went round and round with my first and not much better with the second. I have to agree on the manual its' not layed out very well at all. Also if you have the same version of the manual I do, it says to use a NULL modem cable for programming which is incorrect, has to be a straight through for the KSU and VM card.
