I'm going out to a site tomorrow to install a STS FVM on an existing STS. I don't know anything about the system yet, as far as version or what have you. I'm just wondering how difficult this is going to be. Is the STS similar to the DX80, in that it's a Tecom product? If it is, I can probably navigate my way through programming pretty easily with a book. As for the voicemail, how difficult is it to setup? I am a Key Voice guy, but I've only been into a Vodavi voicemail a couple times, and that was a Dispatch. I got into that one with the Dispatch programming software. Also, I can't seem to locate any documentation on the voicemail itself. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

This is a piece of cake. The STS ksu should reconize the vm card automatically. All eight voicemail ports (x150-157) should be automatically added to vm group 440. In flash 50 page C, setup pre-set forward busy/NA internal/external to 440 for the stations.

Configuration of the vm itself is very straight-forward. Make sure your terminal emulation is ANSI BBS.

No, the STS is not a T-com product like the DX-80. Vodavi's former system, the DHS was a T-com product and didn't work out well.

You will need to assign the card slot as a voice mail card in KSU programming, flash 24. It's not automatically recognized. Once the card slot is ID'd, you will need to reset the power to the system for the card slot assignment to take effect. The card can only be installed in one slot on the left end of the KSU.

Like everyone else has said, it's pretty simple. If you can, and you should, install a modem card in the KSU and connect a cable between the KSU's second serial port and the DB9 on the voice mail card. That way, using simple terminal emulation software, you can support this thing remotely (remember gas prices?). If you do this, you'll need to activate remote maintenance in flash 67 and assign the appropriate serial port. The modem will then let you call in using ext. 498 to access the voice mail card independently of the KSU's 499. Pretty nice being able to use the same modem card to hit both the KSU and the voice mail card! The KSU must have version 1.01 or software or above for this to work.

You will definitely need to program the card initially with a laptop using ANSI/BBS emulation, so be prepared with that. If it's just being used for voice mail, there won't be much that you will need to do except to enter the names in the directory. One IMPORTANT thing to remember, when entering names, only enter the first letter of the last name, not the entire name.

Don't forget to go to flash 50, page C in the KSU to preset forward stations to voice mail.

How come there's always enough time to go back and fix it a second time?

The manual for the flash is in the installer guide for the phone system.

I do believe that the STS will recognize the card automatically. I believe it is the XTSc that will not.

You'll want to look over the manual before you program. There are a couple of things you'll need to know, like what F1 and F2 do.

The XTSc definatley does not auto-recognize the vm, but the STS does when you reinit the ksu (new install). Now I'm not sure about when you're installing one as an add on.

So far so good. It did auto-recognize the card. It looks like they want me to set it up for voicemail, auto attendant, and then also for UCD greetings. I am working on getting connected with my laptop right now. Have not been able to connect yet. I'm sure I can get the VM and auto attendant figured out, but does anyone have any pointers on the UCD setup?

What in particular do you need to know about UCD setup? It's really pretty straight-forward, but in order to assist you I will need to know exactly what you are doing with it.
