Hello,

I work for a company that has a Vodavi Starplus STS system. I would like to be able to program the system remotely (either by computer or whatever else is available). Is this possible? If it is what do I need to make it work?

Thanks.

You'll need either the Vodavi internal modem card for the STS or an external modem configured for auto-answer on one of the com ports on the side of the KSU.

dwflood, is there a howto of any sorts to connect the external modem? Like which com port, and what kind of cable does it take? While I am at it, I am new to the STSe and would like to know if you can program it from the phone like a Partner system? Or should I just stick with the laptop and WinDBA? I am used to using hyperterminal for other systems and would be ok with it to, I just need manuals to read.... Thanks for any help

You can either install the internal modem card or connect a modem to serial port #1. Without the manual for it, it will be difficult, so I would do like Bill suggested and get it for current and future needs. It's worth it.

I have a manual, but I want to know if you need a null modem cable or a straight through cable to connect the modem, btw I can program it fine with WINDba

I would just buy the internal modem card (if it's not already there) and connect that way. It is extension 499, so you should be able to dial it from any extension. If a modem answers, there's your answer.

I can't answer your question about using external modems since we have never tried that.

I do have the urge to ask the question: Have you tried both or have you even gotten to that step? It may not be much of an issue if you have both on-hand.

Connection of an external modem will require a null modem cable. You'll need to configure the modem for auto-answer using AT commands.

Best to use a modem that has non-volitile ram so you can save the auto-answer configuration. If you need help with the AT commands let me know, I can post more info about this.

Have you tried dialing ext 499? You may already have the internal modem card...
