Next week I'm networking a new XTS to an existing XTS. So the customer will be changing to a 4-digit dialplan now.
They have a Dispatch VM. When I change the Dispatch to 4-digit, will the existing database and recordings be blown away? Or will it convert from 3-digit to 4?

Oh, yes, you will lose everything in the Dispatch because the .vox files will be associated with 3-digit and not 4-digit mailbox numbers. You can still retain 3-digit mailbox numbers through the XTS VMID programming to keep the mailboxes the way they are, but that's going to be a pain to keep track of for you and the customer.
Sure, you can probably go in and rework the .vox files, but just bite the bullet and do it right. That means that everyone will have to start from scratch.
Don't forget to initialize the voice mail (Reinit) through e-com. That will clean it out so you have a clean slate to work with. If you don't do this, you will be plagued with problems that can't be explained or easily resolved. It's best to take care of this now, while the transition is occurring, than to have to initialize it later, long after the four-digit plan took place. Save your reputation early-on. It will be worth it.

Thanks again Ed! I figured it'd probably be a matter of starting from scratch.
Back in the day when we sold the AVT CallXpress, you could go from 2 to 3 or 4 digits and it would convert the whole thing, messages and all. Just couldn't go backward (4 to 3 digit numbering plan, etc). Ah well...

I will help you out with the transition if you need it. It's not really so difficult, since it sounds a lot worse than it is. Just PM me if you want to communicate off-line or via phone from the site(s). I am usually available in the office from 10:00 AM to 5:30 PM, M-F but things can get crazy, so if you want to give me a window of when you think you might need some support, I will make sure I am available.
