i just got Vonage so that i could dial in to some of our switches (xtses with modems mainley) but i am having trouble connecting to any ksus remotely using the standard 8-n-1 at ethier 9600 or 19200. its like i can hear them try, but they never get past the initial handshake part, then time out. i can connect using a pots just fine. is there a vonage tweek i need to know about? btw my vonage bandwidth is set to max 90k/s.

That's just one of the things that VoIP does not do very well. Vonage specifically says they do not support modems.

Use an RS-232 to IP converter instead of the modu.

I have the same problem with fax transmission as well. Some PRI carriers around here are using IP as their transport medium between offices and it happens with those as well. I don't think it's isolated to Vodavi systems though. It's more of a shortcoming with VoIP in general.

i know that vodavi had problems with faxes and modems that were going between sites which is relsoved with a software upgrade for the VOIP card. But i have 2 sites that have a PRI in the HUB and fax machines and modems on the remote end and they work fine with the latest software on the VOIP card.
I know this is not exactly what your talking about but i thought i would throw it out there for future reference.

I've used loop current boosters directly out of cable modem boxes for similar applications when the line output just wasnt enough to support the connected device. With the changes in our industry these days, this is a good device to have on hand and may very well resolve this issue. Since proving this to the cable company, I have seen these devices at several locations that I did not install as well. You can get these at sandman.com.
