Are any of you having a problem with the displays blacking out all of the blocks across the display?

I think the model number of the phone is: 351571.

Everything appears to function normally except the display.
I unplug the set and plug it back in and everything is fine for while, sometimes months.

I have had this happen on two different systems that I installed so I know they were initialized and both systems are properly grounded.
I'm guessing it may be static discharge when they touch the phone sometimes because one of the customers said that happens very often.

I believe that JustBill reported having had this problem a while back. I have never seen it myself, but I believe that there was mention of firmware within the sets.

Wasn't me this time Ed. I did have a couple "unique" problems that fellow board members helped me out with, but not that one. Static discharge can do some funny things, has your customer considered a static mat or spraying static guard (commercial) to see if that helps? Only problem is if unplugging helps for months at times it would be hard to tell. You could try to initialize the station attributes, of course that'd be a pain if much has been changed.

Here is a similar problem. I searched Vodavi category for display and there were a couple more, but they basically did what you have.

Thanks guys. This is just one of those things that bugs me more than it does the customer. I'll just chalk it up to the static discharge for now.

Neither of the customers are too concerned about it. They say other than that little glitch the systems work perfectly. I think I'd better leave well enough alone! laugh

Bobby

Yes, I've had an issue with the displays at a couple of sites.

I never got a firm answer from Tech support.

I did check the ribbon cable inside keyset to the display and reseated.

I think i just changed the keyset out and went on.
Sorry, but this is not a firm answer.

Thanks TJ. Have you tried to test the sets you replaced on another system to see if the problem occurred again?

Bobby,

Seems like I've put them on the office system for few weeks and they didnt fail.

I only install the 3516-71 back-lit telephones.
As of yet no known problem with the back-lit.

The issues were on the non-back-lit telephones.
I really think it has to do with a static problem
getting into the key sets.

I did get answer of sorts from VODAVI tech support. I was told to swap the affected set for another on the system and the problem would "go away". The tech could explain it but that's the answer they're giving. Yes...it appears only in the non backlit sets.
