Actually I just read an old post here in another topic of SBX under Vodavi that said the digital staions use the second pair; which I take to be the white/orange pair on a two pair wired jack, and the analog if used will use the first pair. Did I read that correctly and is that the order of use for the station cross connects on the SBX?

That seems weird as I would think the primarily used stations to this system would be digital first and then analog. Which I would think would be using the first pair; the white/blue pair for the digital and the second pair if needed as analog would use the white/orange pair.

Oh well, guess my logic doesn't matter now though. Just want to get it all understood and wired correctly.

Thanks again for any clarity for this.

Digital sets use the white/orange pair. That can be a problem if the original cablers only terminated the white/blue for a one pair digital system. You're right about trying to get to some jacks behind built ins and bookcases.

I did a firmware upgrade to the first couple of KSUs that we put in to clear up some buggy issues.

Thanks for clarifying that for me. We are definitely going to have to change all cross connects it sounds like anyway. I do hope no jacks have been split off.

Oh well...we shall find out soon enough!!

Thanks again for the clarification!!

Make a line cord cheat and you won't have to re-crossconnect.

I have installed 21 sbx systems as well as programmed some of them more then once. I have gotten pretty good at programing them imo lol. The manual sucks. Everything I have learned has been trial and error or tech support wich in the beginning was rough as I knew just about as much as they did. To be honest dont even bother trying to program without pc admin. They have changed alot and I noticed I was messing all the stuff up between STS and SBX. So I keep the programming of the SBX to Pcadmin. First thing I do when starting to program is start the ring group. Get that done so you can do the co ring assignments. If your using a voicemail make sure you right click that group and do the attribs. You need to adjust the overflow timer and the user recording timer. Make sure you over flow to vm #1. One of the biggest things I kept forgetting was UPDATE. Make sure you click update whenever you make a change. I kept making the change and then closing the box. Nothing changed lol. From then on its just regular programing as far as station level and such.

The biggest complaint so far with this system from customer is volume. I have several machine shops and printing shops that complained they couldnt hear the person on the other end. This is standard practice for every install is to change the volume setting. Go to Nation Specific - RX gain- then go to the top row about 3rd or 4th over to ACOB. Adjust that number up. I cant remember off the top of my head what the exact number is but 20 sounds right. If they need more mic volume you go to the first row down to ACOB and adjust that. Dont do too much there or it sounds like a wind tunnel.

Also make sure you go into system timers in the system section. Adjust the transfer hold and intercom hold to more time cause they default at 30.

At station level if you need to setup a page button. You must turn on the paging. Why its not default on I dont know. Its in the attribs for station level. Click page on then ok edit all then update.

Music on hold must be turned on for all cos as well. That is in the co attribs too. You must turn it to External for all the cos on the system for the MOH to work. The internal one sucks!!

Also remember the voicemail is small. The only way to leave a message is at station level. There are no virtual mailboxs. If no recording is left there is no voicemail box at that station. If they dont make a password then they cannot call in to check their voicemails.

Everything should most definatly be wired for two pair.

If you order the octopus cable with the rj11 fittings allready put on for you dont go crazy if something doesnt come up. I have had a bunch of them come with one or two fittings that were bad.

I definatly recommend buying modems with all your SBXs. They are cheap and man does it help out!!lol

If you would like pm me and I can send ya my number so if you guys run into any problems you can give me a call.

Will
