We are currently in the discovery process of how to gain remote access to our Vodavi STSe 3501-00 phone systems. After reading through our manuals the process and mechanics of how this feature works is still a bit unclear. We need to configure this feature in order for us to upload the programming database's remotely in case of a power outage.

From what I understand we can gain access via a 9600 baud modem. So exactly how do we dial into the modem remotely? Do we dedicate a CO line that forwards the request to the modem? Also, how to we gain access to port 499?

If anyone can assist in making theis process a bit more clear, I would greatly appreciate.

Thanks!
- J

You install the optional modem card (3530-30) in the lower-right hand card slot. You then call in and have someone transfer you to X499 or point a CO line to ring at X499. There's not much more to it.

If you are losing your databases, then whomever installed the systems didn't configure the DIP switches properly in the KSU. You certainly should not lose programming just because of a power outage. These things are good for at least three weeks without power for memory retention.

So do you dial in to the CO line -- once configured properly -- and then hang up the phone and allow the modem from my PC to take over from that point?

Also, I'll be sure to check the DIP switches on the KSU to make sure they're properly configured.

Thanks for all the help!

Pretty much. It's probably better to have your PC's modem just dial the number directly. Your modem settings should be 9600/N/8/1 with no flow control.

Awesome! Thanks again for the info.

Not to derail the subject, but I have checked the DIP switch for the memory battery on our KSU (Switch 4) and it is set to "On". Although when I power cycle the unit it does not retain any programming. Is there an additional step that I'm missing?

Thanks again for all the help.

Jared

DIP switch #8 on the bank of switches should be off (up). All others should be on (down). Note that this bank of switches is upside-down, so switch #8 is on the left.

Great, that worked! After reading more into the manual I see that when you power up the Vodavi with Switch 8 on, it loads the factory defaults. laugh
