Right off, I am not a lineman, just a semi-savvy consumer that needs a bit of advice.
Quite a while ago we switched from std ATT to Time-Warner cable phone (which uses a modem). In retrospect, we are thinking of going back to ATT. I recall that Time-Warner did a lot of work on the jacks at the time and I was wondering if the current wiring config will be compatible with ATT?
Am I opening a Pandora's Box here of arguments and finger-pointing? ATT says that they will give me one working jack. After that its $125 for the first, $85 each thereafter. Thanks!! Lar

Hi, Larbo..... to the BB. Normally here in the Midwest, TWC runs a jumper from their modem back to the SNI and pulls the local LEC's connection. When at&t comes out, all should need to be done is reconnect the mod connection in the SNI and disconnect the connection at the TWC modem. Minor work and all should be good to go....unless....you got that one TWC guy that doesn't know the color code or that everything should feed from the SNI and he really messed up your wiring. Good Luck.

All I have ever seen is them plugging the modem into a nearest jack then cutting the telco wiring outside at the NI. What changes did they make at the jacks? That doesn't make sense because if your wiring and jacks worked with the telco it will work connected to their modem. There is no difference between telco and what comes out of their modem. Maybe they were just cleaning everything up? At any rate there shouldn't be any problem. Just out of curiosity what is wrong with TWC phone? Always looking for dirt. -Hal

Ken, " what is RIGHT with TWC phone?"
When it's working, you can usually make a call?
Their statement about 97% 'uptime' doesn't cut it for me. I like to 'pick up the phone and make a call', as I ALWAYS have been able to with ILEC service. But, I suspect I'm 'preaching to the choir'. John C.

Had a client here that the "Cable guy" did indeed visit every jack. Yep, cut them all out of service. I guess it was his (or their) way to make sure the client didn't go back to Bell. Either that or they would charge extra to have extra jacks working.
