I have a customer with a welding shop. When they weld aluminum they get high frequency interference into the phone system. I have shielded cable and jacks run to all phones with with all connections grounded. they also have 4 paging horns also on shielded cable. I am at a loss here to fix this problem.

Other then putting all cabling in conduit and moving the system as far away as possible from all welding equipment. I don't have any other suggestions.

Bummer. Shielded cable is usually adequate. You could try clamp-on ferrite chokes or built a ferrite cage. If the interference is being induced through the AC, you could also add an AC Isolation Transformer.

Also, you might want to use two-conductor line cords instead four conductor. The second pair can be picking up this interference and adding to the problem.

You really weren't clear on how this interference is affecting the system. If it is just coming through the speakers on the phones, you might try changing the "idle speaker mode" on the stations to see if that has any effect.

What does the interference do? If it is only affecting outside calls there are soms anti EFI modular devices that work well. I have used them in the past. I picked them up at Radio Shack.

Thank you all for your suggestions. The interference was causing the paging horns to go off, random line problems ect. I have a AC Isolation Transformer on there now to see if that fixes the problem. Ill keep you all posted

Here we go again. The hf is still affecting the system it sets the paging horns and causes all the phone to go into hands free mode after about 30 sec of welding. Power conditioner still in place. Shielded cable to all paging horns and phones. clamp-on ferrite chokes in use still no resolution.

Disconnect the co lines and see if it still happens. If so you need inline rf filters.
