Is there a limit to the number of phones that can be connected to a single centrex line? I have Fire House that has 2 inbound centrex analog lines. There are 10+, two line phones in the house, all have L1 as the first and L2 as the second. There is sever enough crosstalk that 4 phones have to be disconnected for the circuit to be reliable.
Punch down is MPOE to 66-block looped then individual cross connects to 110-block to CAT5.
Any recommendations?

Buy better quality 2-Line phones or better yet put in a system.

Is it the same 4 phones or are you finding 6 phones is the maximum and it can be any 4?
Are all 10 phones the same brand? If so which one?
But really Dave is on the $. For 10+ phones you could use a real telephone system. Having an intercom would probably be nice too. Most firehouses I worked in also had a PA system. Being able to tie into that would also be a plus.

Any recommendations? Yes... It's based off REN Ringer Equivalency Number. Somewhere where on the small print on the back/bottom of the phones there should be an alpha-numeric code for the REN. The numerics represent a ringer value and the total of all lines connected should not exceed 5 by a general rule. 10 phones… Without even knowing the REN is too many. As Sam and Dave have suggested, you’re really need to look in to a phone system for your ap there.

Some older externally powered AT&T branded 2-line telephones (like the 962) have an REN of "0".
Still, a small business telephone system is the way to go.

An X16 XBlue system would be a nice fit for something like this.
As far as Xtalk. If you have quad wire rather than twisted wire that will cause Xtalk, especially on long runs.

Many of the non ksu phones are limited to not only the REN but also the total length of wire. Shorten all your cables to the minimum need length and make sure there are no unused runs connected. With that many phones you really should consider a small key system.
