I have a client that is shopping for a new phone system and is comparing an Emerald to my NEC. I know nothing about the Emerald and would appreciate any input on this system. We are talking small key (6 lines and 15 stations) with VM.

Thanks for any input.

If your bidding the DS line they are essentially the same system. Both made in China by Tecom. Different configuration and some minor differences but essentially the same or very similar. At 6 by 15 the Tadiran product will probably price out better. The Comdial DX80 is also part of this family.

The Emerald ICE is a great little system. I would recommend using only the 28 button phones and not the 14 button non display sets. If your looking for voicemail then the hard drive version is the best and the low end flash voicemail works ok, but lacks some useful features.

I agree, I install the ICE systems for small applications. I don't push the flash v-mail. I like the Hard drive v-mail. both have 8 ports, hard drive v-mail is more feature rich,(120 hour storage/auto conv. record, ect.)The system also allows you to listen to messages being left and you can "pull" the call back from v-mail if you want. It is feature rich for the price. The 14 button phones are ok for retail applications (disable the feature key) but the 28 button is king. I don't know much about the NEC DS series, I do know the NEC IPK and they are 2 different animals. The IPK is much more money aswell.
