Just moved an ATT 4-line 954 system from office to home, where it's now hooked to only one phone line. Intercom and page don't work. They worked fine in the office with 3 phone lines attached. Does the intercom require more than one phone line to work?

No the intercom and page work over the first line. Do you have DSL?

From the manual....
Intercom Paging Signal Not Received Make sure you have programmed your intercom extension number correctly. Line 1 must be connected at all extensions, and must be the same telephone number/line for Page and Intercom to work properly.

As Bill was alluding to, DSL filters can hinder the ability of the phones to communicate with each other. A DSL filter needs to be connected in front of the location where the wires to each telephone extension are tied together.

Thanks for comments. Both lines are connected to line 1, intercom numbers properly assigned. No DSL, we have cable. When pressing the page button, intercom lights up on all phones, but no sound. When trying intercom, get a loud buzz on the originating phone.

Additionally, our line 1 is a split line -- it has a separate ring for the fax. Would this make a difference?

I assume you mean both Phones are connected to line one. If you have the extension numbers set and it's not exceeding the recogmmended distance, you may have bad phones or a bad phone. Distinctive ring wouldn't have anything to do with it.
Can you put them on hold? Do all other features work?

All other features work. I mean that we have one line coming into the house. It has two numbers assigned to it, one for voice and one for fax.

How many phones do you have in total? Is it only two? If you have more, then I would try by disconnecting all but two and see if it works. If it doesn't rotate the other phones in one at a time. Keep trying and hopefully you'll find some that work. Then add them in one at a time.
As Bill said, one bad phone could knock out the system.

Confirm you've assigned different extension numbers to them also. From your discription so far there is no reason they shouldn't work unless you have a bad phone. Not that this should keep it from working are the lights above the unused lines lit or out? If lit there is a program to tell them they are unused and will put them out. Again I doubt that would cause a problem.
Assuming phones are good and wiring is with-in the manufactures limits, you may have a line votage or loop current problem. If you put a plain ol phone ahead of the system does it light the line lamp when it's off hook? I hate assuming things, but I assume the line lamp is out when phone is idle? Which again really shouldn't affect the intercom operation even if it weren't.
