Hi all, I bought a Clarity (Plantronics) 900 Mhz cordless phone, really cheap new in box but damaged. The damage was indicated on the box by "this is cracked" advice pointing to the display window. I first thought that was the outside plastic handset case window but found that the LCD physical part was cracked instead. I still felt the phone could be repaired and took it apart to ID the LCD part. It turns out it's the glass that sits on the LCD matrix element. There's a thin white insulator sandwiched between the glass and the LCD matrix element, and the whole assy is secured on the PC board by a metal bezel that is easily removed...then the glass is exposed and is simply lifted off. I called Clairity/Plantronics repair service and inquired about that part but was informed they don't sell or repair parts, but replace the whole piece. (Throwaway technology again!!!). So I need a parts source for the LCD glass piece (not the matrix). My technical specialty was never specialized phones so I'm not sure these glass parts are compatible between models and makes or where I can get that part. I've looked at salvage, phone parts, LCD parts, and surplus parts internet pages but have so far been unable to find the glass LCD part.
Any help or suggestions?

Thanks Professor, tried that with salvage, returns, white box, phone parts, surplus, broken websites, etc, but none found so far. Can't believe there's no other one in the world that no one wants. Have not yet given up on that but I tend to think there should be a better chance of finding a glass piece (lens or whatever) lying around somewhere on some parts shelf. So still looking for that too. That's why I'm here.

You WOULD want it now. I have thrown away several displays from an un-named brand of phone . In looking at them, it appears to be PLAIN OLD GLASS. Scrounge up a piece of glass and get busy with the glass cutter. I'd suggest a glass shop, but the charges (rightfully so) would be more than another unit! Oh, and by the way, some of the LCD 'liquids' are carcenegenic, so don't get that 'stuff' on ya'!

Lightninghorse, Sorry, I'ts NOT plain old glass. When doing my many searches and homework I visited several other tech parts message boards and saw comments that the glass overlay has a kind of matrix window layer of it's own underneath. Anyway, looking at the glass it's evident that it has two layers bonded together and the bottom layer is the piece that's cracked, not the top layer which probably is plain glass.
