We are using an Electra Elite IPK system and my phone is a dtu-8d-2bk... I need to know:

- how to change the security code of the person who used the phone before me

- how to change the voice box greeting from his name to my name

also there is a dial by name (first 3 digits of last name) directory, but how do I add someone else to that?

Any help appreciated thanks.

you (if you have manager status) or the system manager will have to reset the mailbox as new and delete the security code.

shoot me an email if you need to know how

I've been reading thru the manual for the past week... what should I be looking for? automated attendant? Call by call? There are only a few sections on voice mail in this huge 1000 page manual.

is this something I should at least look in the programming manual or the hardware manual? I can bring the phone into programming mode / offline and I can change the times... if that helps at all.

Chris answered this.

- "how to change the voice box greeting from his name to my name"
This would be in a Elitemail VMS user guide only.

-"also there is a dial by name (first 3 digits of last name) directory, but how do I add someone else to that?"

"how to change the voice box greeting from his name to my name":
Basically what Chris said, have the system manager get into their VM box, go to MGR -> CHBX and enter the extention. Then follow the Voice Prompts to reset the VM box. At which point you can start anew with your VM box.

"also there is a dial by name (first 3 digits of last name) directory, but how do I add someone else to that?":
Each new VM box will be given an option to add themselves to the dial-by-name directory or to opt out somewhere during the initial setup. I believe you can also go back and add yourself or opt out, but thats up to the individual VM box owners wether they want to be a part of the dial-by-name directory or not.

the problem is that I'm the system manager and I don't know 1) his old passcode 2) how to "get in"

I got the EliteMail user guide, that helps a lot, but initially how to create new VM... if anyone knows and doesn't want to post please email me, or if you want to direct me to a page in the manuals that helps too.

if you're the manager you don't need to know his passcode. just delete the code & reset the box to new.

when he (or you)sets it up he (or you)will
1>record spoken name
2>set a password (if desired)
3>record his greeting(s)
4>choose the 3 numbers that spell out his name
5>choose to be listed in the directory

===================================
you being able to get into programming on the phone is completely different than getting into the programming on the vm (which requires a pc, null modem cable, & cosessions)

you can it is in each mailboxes setup options. and it can be turned off/on at will by the user
