I have a client who had a bad vendor - client ended up sueing the vendor and returning all the equipment and Software CDs, but the vendor claims that Call Analyst CD is useless with out the License info embedded on the client's PC.

As I recall, when the app is installed, the system connects to NEC to see if that cc is used, and if not, does some magic to enable the local app to be enabled. (Obviously a piracy impediment).

So, how does my client get the license off the PC, or is the vendor full of garbage and has the ability to get a new license key, and just wants to try to charge the client another 750.00?

you cannot move the license, you will have to go through NEC to get a new license issued. If you tell them that the computer got wiped out the will help you!

I tried this method - and something anyone attempting should know is that NEC will only deal with you if you are an NEC vendor... a 'registered vendor'. We had exactly that happen with a client; the PC crashed. All that is required is a re-install of the software. Even with all the right information they refuse to do anything but refer us to an NEC vendor in our area. Maybe it was the guy I talked to... maybe it was [bad] luck... who knows. In any event, Craig held the line firmly.

Anyone out there able to help out? tia

NEC is a reseller for Call Analyst. The product is developed by Trivium (https://www.triviumsys.com/products_home.html). If you have the original license number, Trivium can relicense the product - for a fee, of course. The relicense fee would entitle you to an upgrade to the latest version also.
All this info is on their website.

Funny, Trivium actually referred me to NEC. I called them first because my documents had thier name vice NECs. Appreciate the help, BB.

I have moved Call Analyst to different machines. I had to have NEC walk me through it, so it can be done. It can't be done when the hard drive crashes.

Buyer beware ... Elite Call Analyst version 2.0 was designed to install and run in an administrative sign on in Windows XP. If the company you install this for mandates that all pc drops (including the call accounting pc) be signed on in a non-administrative sign on, ie a regular or restricted user, then the program thinks it is not registered and will not launch. It wants the registration info again. Trivium spent hours on getting this problem resolved in the system registry and then would not divulge what they did to resolve the problem. Now we are at their mercy when installing this software. Version 1.0 had similar problem, but we were able to give the Call Analyst folder under program files full permissions and Trivium folder in system registry (Local machine\software\Trivium) full permissions and it worked. Not so with 2.0 ... We have tried it all and it simply won't launch unless you are signed in as administrator or have administrative rights. They need to fix this !!! No self respecting professional IT dept will let regular users stay logged on as administrator or have administrator rights.

Agreed on the IT dept statement, cameron.
Perhaps a bit of the obvious, but have you edited the registry permissions? You can select a reg key or tree and alter permissions on it... so that 'Everyone' or 'GivenUser' can add/edit/delete etc... I am guessing that is all that is required. This has been a software transition common troublespot as the ACL and AD models have evolved outside software programming realms.. Other very popular software has the same issue.
