Well, Here's a fun project. Verizon dropped a 56k in the wrong building. Between the building and the terminating equipment is: 500 ft of cat5e to get to an equipment room with fiber that connects to the other building.
So the request is to extend the 56k d-marc. There is a copper feed to the other building also but this would give as at least a 1200 to 1500 foot extended d-marc.
This leaves us with two options a media converter that will convert a 56k to run on the fiber to the other building, or have Verizon re-drop the circuit next month or so, which no one want's wants to do because this circuit needs to "be up yesterday".
Has anyone ever heard of such a converter or have any other solution? I'd love to hear it.
Thanks,

Is there any cat3 back bone between the buildings or just the fiber?

There is cat3 between the buildings. But it takes a 500' run just to get to it. Then it's probably another 1000' to the end point.

Black Box has all kinds of gadgets for these applications. I'd check with them if I were you.

Sam SST, Since I'm pretty sure I know where Sam is going with this... Also any clue on how much copper there is between the current NID location and the C.O.?

It's for an ATM machine. I don't know what kind of switch or mux they are using, the ATM guys weren't there when I was. I don't know what the loop length to the CO is either.

You should be able to find what you need but that does not absolve a common carrier of its responsibility. Call and complain, daily. Report them to your states regulatory agency. Force them to do their job!

That's pretty far from the LEC's equipment, but it might work as digital is pretty forgiving. Try it you have nothing to loose.
