It seems that this is not a very reliable VM system from all the posts I've seen. Then again- I've never seen anything last long that used an IBM laptop drive.
I bought one of these used, and I think I got scammed. I'm thinking that if I just slide the card into the system (elite 48) and turn it on, even when the system is not configured to use it, the diagnostic leds on the VMS should show all good, right? It comes straight up to a solid red bios led, and no activity from any of the other leds. I've tried it in 2 NECs just to be sure I got the same results. Bad card?
Thanks-

I'm inclinded to agree with you regarding hard drive voicemails. The flash ROM versions appears far more reliable.
What is the card type of your mail (U??)It should be on the back side of the card.. Also check if all the DIP switches at the top of the card are set to the left.
" I'm thinking that if I just slide the card into the system (elite 48) and turn it on, even when the system is not configured to use it"
Correct. With s system in default the mail should bootup and run..

It's a U10 - and I originally tried the card with all the switches off, until I started trying some "diagnostics" (pushing buttons at random).
Bummer. I guess this thing is trash!
Thanks-

Being an old U10 card and assuming it's sofware level is 6.65 set DIP SW 4 to on and power on, After about 2 minutes the port LEDs should come on. Try and connect with Co-Session @19200. If successful go thru the Hard Disk and other maintenace routines and see if you can recover things and make sure you "Dearchive" the default database and system files..
If you can't connect in maint mode then I suspect that you have a paper weight..

If you have a desktop pc and the correct cables, put it in as the second drive and let windows XP defrag it and or scandisk it. It might be possible to recover some corrupted data if the drive isn't totally wiped.

I guess I wasn't completely cheated - the seller replaced that one with another. This one looks closer to functional. No red bios led, HD activity (although it does have that wonderful abundance of mechanical noise that could only be an IBM hard drive), BCLR led comes on, but red. I immediately ghosted an image of the drive in case it fails soon. Now to the question that everyone seems to eventually asks: Where do I get cosession?
Thanks, Travis-
