I need some ideas. I have a customer that is running a DS2000 software rev. 03.22.00 with Intramail (4 slot). I put the system in last summer set up as a square system with 5 lines. The first 3 are in a dial 9 trunk group. They recently were sold a package with a block of 20 digital lines and a block of 2 lines to retain their business number and Fax number, all on a T1. I got a T1 card, installed it and got it working but the provider cannot send dial tone. I would like to have dial tone so my customer doesn't get confused when placing a call. Also the CC mancines that they use require a dial tone as well as the fax. I called off the cut-over today because I needed a better handle on these issues. This is a first time for me with a digital T1 card with (wink start)trunks. I should also note that they have 14 ext phones and each will have their own DID line as well as share a group of lines for typical incoming business calls.
Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

First you need to upgrade software to 3.22.07
Do you have ASTU (analog station) card in the system for the CC and fax?

Your provider should be able to give you your DID numbers over the T1 so you can program, test, debug and when all is good than have them move their existing numbers over to the digital side.

The DID numbers tested OK yesterday but no dial tone is supplied with them. How would you set the system up so my customer hears dial tone when they select a line? I do have a ASTU card in the system but again, the CCs and Fax won't work unless they have a dial tone.
Thanks for your reply,

Are you saying you can dial out but when you do dial tone is not heard?

Yes, that is correct. I am told by the provider that they do not supply dial tone at this time but will in the future. It will come with a later revision with their equipment.
I am hoping that there is a common solution that is used for this that I don't know about.

If you can dial out with the DS phones than I see no reason why the fax and CC can't dial out.

Have you tried programming the T1 lines into group 91 and assign your analog stations to that group for testing?

The Fax and CC machines wait to hear dial tone before they will dial. What will programming the T1 lines into group 91 do?

There is not much you can do at this point. I know some of the Avaya systems gave you an option of providing dial tone but I have never ran into a carrier that didn't supply their own. You may try selecting intercom as prime on the fax and CC and dial a 9 to get out.

You can try this, Put the Fax line into line group 91, then allow the Fax extension to use line group 91 only, then have the ext pick ICM as prime when the phone goes off hook. Try dialing 9 before the number, the Fax may recognize the intercom dial tone as real dial tone

It's not that unusual for the carrier to not provide dialtone on a T.
If you set the DS Lines to Store&Forward mode in program 1001, and then access the lines using dial "9" or a Loop key you will be provided with internal dialtone. In Store&Forward mode, the DS will accumulate digits until the interdigit timer times out or you dial "#". It will then grab a line and dial out.

Thanks for answering.
I will try that trick using the intercom dial tone. Probably that is what dans had in mind when suggesting group 91. By the way, I started this post on the Installer's forum today hoping to get more tech's eyes and thoughts on it.
Thanks again!
