Having installed a lot of DS1000's with excellent results I'm beginning to propose the DSX40. Anyone install one yet? Thanks!

I have not installed a DSX 40 yet.

I have installed several dsx 80/160's.
I was looking at the numbers on the dsx 40 and for the cost of a common equipment cabinet for the dsx 80 I did not think it was a good idea to limit my customers expansion capabilities to the dsx 40 verses the dsx 80/160.

Just my opinion.

I disagree! The DSX 40 is a perfect system for any customer that don't plan on growing much larger (for example: Doctor's offices, Lawyers, small businesses, etc.) Ideally, as Brian mentions, you wouldn't want to suggest the DSX 40 to a customer needing more than 8 CO lines, or more than 24 extensions, but if they're a small company this is the most cost effective and feature rich system in the market place. Not to mention contractors putting them into houses! I've even had some restaurants putting these in.

depends on the app I just sold one to a lawyer who works out of his home office , he and his wife ,

two phones two lines . liked the built in auto attendant , off premise forwarding , digital sound quality cordless integration , door box and vm .

I sold him two line TMC phones almost 10 years ago that are just starting to die.

he will never get bigger

just like the ds 1000 it has its place but like the ds 1000 / ds2000 if there is ever any possibility of expansion the 80 may make more sense as the 2000 did in most applications.

they didn't stock them locally had to pull one out of Texas so Ill let you know latter this week how install goes .

I went to the seminar on them last month and they look like a easy install

I've installed 3 so far - they were all for small businesses that will not grow much larger. The upgrades for the DSX-40 are more economical than the 3x8 upgrade that the DS1000 has. So...if a customer does grown beyond 4 lines, the 4-line expansion is very reasonable.

These are great little systems and very feature rich.

I had to set the Receive Gain and Transmit Gain to -4 (just like on the DSX 80) on all of the lines because they were too loud and you could hear your self through the reciever

ttech,

Changing the receive and transmit levels will reduce the sidetone, but also reduce the line volume as well. We recommend setting the CO line loop length first (program 3103-03, settings = short, medium, long).

Here's the proceedure:
1) Go off-hook on the line you want to set.
2) Break dial tone by dialing a digit.
3) Speak into the handset and listen to the sidetone level. (i.e. your own voice)
4) Change the setting for the line in 3103-03 (using PC Admin or another phone).
5) Repeat step 3 and compare.
6) Select the best (i.e. lowest sidetone) of the 3 settings.
7) Repeat for other lines.

One thing to look out for.. Using the PC program, if you change off hook prime line (2114) to any line group other than 90 it will not take. It will look like it does but if you re-download the System programming you will see it switched back to 90 in the admin software. It has to be manually set from the phone.

ttech,

This is a known problem with the PC program and will be fixed in the next release. Look for a new version on necdsx.com early next week.
