I have a DS2000. I worked on OLD phone systems years ago...But, am really lost with this. We had an electrical storm the other day and now my line 2 doesn't work. I have traced it all the way to the card...and that is where it isn't working. So, here is my question. Instead of swapping the card, can I just connect that line into the "line 5" (I only use 4 lines)....and somehow in the software tell that the line that is punched down on "line 5" should be "line 2"? I figure there has to be a way....I am using the DS-Series system administrator.....But, just can't see how to do that? Any help is GREATLY appreciated!!

You are in luck! You are working with one of the easiest, most user friendly system on the market! The end user can make line assignments on their buttons simply by reviewing their user guide.

Go ahead and move line to CO 5 on your connecting block. Then at each phone.... with the handset down, press #57 (KP for key programming).

Press line key 2, press hold
dial 03 (code for CO line), dial 5 for CO trunk 5.
Press hold, press speaker.

You can verify the programming by pressing your "CHECK" button, then line key 2. It should display that button 2 is now CO line 5.

Finally, you may want to ensure that the line is set to ring. This too can be done by the end user. With the handset down, dial #725. The buttons will light up.... green means ring, red means no ring, flashing red means delay ring. Simply keep pressing the line key until it displays the color you want. Then press hold, speaker.

There aren't a lot of systems out there that gives the user the capabilities to make these simple assignment changes. NEC did a great job in engineering this system for ease of use. These instructions come with every phone shipped.
