I'd like to have some technician's perspective on InMail v3.0 vs UM8000 other than the marketing stuff on NEC's website.

Thank you

It does not handle faxing. Most real UM users want that also.

Inmail is limited in some ways, but easier to manage in others.

If I were going to recommend a VM solution for a company, I would suggest if they wanted any other features other than a basic auto attendant or generic message taking, to stick to the UM8000. More money, more features.

In most cases InMail is a better choice if you don't need fax. The feature sets are very similar, with the exception of the integrated programming, which really simplifies InMail installation. FYI, look for new InMail features like Cascading Notification and Find-Me-Follow-Me coming soon.

The Inmail does handle fax but it's a fax detect and redirect to a ext number attached to a fax. If you want real faxmail for each user then you have to use the UM8000..

We had a customer where they are sharing the SV8100 with 3 other companies and thus wanted to have 3 different greetings altogether. They had analog trunks and found it easy to setup using the Inmail Trunk option. I haven't tried had the chance to do this with a UM8000 but I believe it's do-able since the UM8000 is more expensive or is it? Please correct me.

Normally if they want AA upfront we normally just DIL each trunk to a separate virtual which is CFAll to the Inmail and use a separate group mailbox for each company greeting and dial action table....

The UM8000 can be configured for multiple companies/tenants. It is almost just like the NEC EliteMail LX.
