I've got a customer with a new DSX80 w/ Intramail. I didnt sell them the system but I installed it for them the first week of July 09. Initially they had 1-16 ESIU card. About a month later their CABLING contractor sold them a used 16 DSTU card and 8 used phones. He installed it and did the cross-connects but could not configure the system for it. So they called me. Simple, name the extensions and activate the mailboxes. Now here's the strange thing. They have called me twice in the past month about voicemail not working on extensions 316-323 ports 17-24. I log in remotely and check 2141 and the mails boxes are set as none for those ports. I changed them back to personal and everythings fine. I know only the first 16 mailboxes are on by default but the system hasnt been defaulted. If it had I wouldnt be able to get into it remotely and the other programming would be set to default. The guy probably got the card off ebay. Just to make me feel better I'm going to replace the DSTU card with another DSTU I cant replace it with an ESIU card because the used phones will not work with that card. Any other ideas.

Is the hunting set up correctly? Remember that the first 16 are all on the EISU card and NOT the DSTU card.

Sounds like too many people are working on this.

Everything has been working fine since mid August when the DSTU was installed. Then about three weeks ago they called and said the 8 stations they are using on the DSTU lost voicemail. I logged in remotely and noticed the settings change. Mailbox type on all 16 ports (17-32) on the DSTU card had been set back to none (off). They press the voicemail button at one of the stations on the DSTU and it asks them to enter a mailbox #. That tells me that the mailbox for that station has been turned off. I set all the DSTU ports voicamail types back to personal and everythings OK. This has happened twice. It makes no sense the DSTU card doesnt control any programming and the ESIU is not affected. That lets me know the intramail pro flash card is OK. Its not a software issue. It's not a programming issue. The only thing I can think of to fix this is to replace the DSTU.

When I returned in August they signed a basic service agreement. When they did that we changed the default installers password and put service/void tape on the cabinet to let us know if anyone has been inside.

Well, if the system is like the Aspire or UX..when you initialize a card it goes in port order and if the Intramail was initialized after the first digital card you probably have a conflict. I know for a fact on the Aspire and UX you have to get the intramail up and out of the way with ports when you program it to avoid just that.

Are you programming using the computer program or thru the phone?

I would tend to agree with that but it worked fine for 2.5 months then all at once it started this. If there was a conflict it would have started sooner. The only thing that has changed is their IT guys finally got my port forwarded about a month ago so I could remote into the system.

I've never ran into a bad backplane.

Initial programming was done through a phone then all other programming was done with a computer. I make sure no files are open when I connect to the system. I havent been onsite since this trouble started so I've only been in remotely.
I'm going to pickup a DSTU today and replace it because I dont know where this guy got his. I will just default the system and start from scratch when I get there. Programming is minimal so it want take long.

I went in yesterday and replaced the DSTU. I went ahead an initialized and reprogrammed the system. Changed level 2 (admin) password because they have a new office manager. Just trying to cover all my bases. I've seen a few sabotaged in my day. I'll give an update in a week or so.

Thanks guys.

If you are not ending your programming session correctly the system may not saving the programming properly. The DSTU does not hold any programing so I am doubtful that, that actually will do anything for your problem.

Hopefully your Password changes will do the trick.

accommgrp,

This is the second backplane....one one a DS2000 and this one on the DSX.

First one was mounted on the wall where the entry door was located. Everytime the door slammed the system reset.

The DSX ran for about six weeks then started doing funny things....we even disconnected the LAN connection and it still reprogrammed itself. A new VM card worked for a while, then it reprogrammed itself again. Replaced the KSU....no more problems in over 5 months.
