I have a shiny new UX5000 and love the parts of it that are configured so far... My installer got us up to basics pretty quick and we liked the system. getting them back to finish has been more complicated. I can get into webpro and manage the phones, no problem. I have managed other PBX systems in the past, and constantly manage network and server hardware, so I feel I can take care of the few minor things I have left myself. I have the PCPRO software. I just need to be able to log in. Anyone able to point me in the right direction as to how to obtain them? I can prove ownership of the system if needed, and appreciate any help these forums can give.

Before you begin there are a "few" things to be aware of:
  • There are items that you can do using WebPro that you can't do using PCPro and vice-versa
  • There are inherent 'engineering over-sights' from the previous Aspire based system, which obtained those issues from the previous Nitsuko i-series system
  • Just because the manual says you can, don't make it so.

You would be better off trying to find another dealer.

I wish it were that simple. I am in a pretty rural area and have to import my techs from a couple of hours away. gets expensive fast.

any help would still be much appreciated.

I would guess that your WebPro access is at one of the levels that only allows you to change certain items - probably phone phone set programming mostly.

The full access programming that can be done in WebPro and PC Pro is by design pretty complex. NEC wants the dealer to do that programming, not the end user. People installing and programming the UX should be trained and certified to do so.

I would think you could have your dealer remote into your network and access the UX for programming changes that you need. I do almost all program changes on a UX remotely. Quicker for me, and much more cost effective for the customer.

Contact your dealer and see if they can help you out in that way..........

If they haven't finished programming from the original go live. They need to come back and fix it as part of the original job quote.

So I own the phone system, but can't do anything much to it myself? That seems contradictory to ownership as I understand it... If I own it and want to mess it up, is that not my right as its owner? Apparently I am alone in this view. Guess I should have stayed away from NEC. bout a $100,000 dollar mistake. Was told I would be able to manage this system after install.

I would think that would be your decision. All you would have to do is go to your dealer and request or have the installer pw changed so you can get in and do what you want to do. I would ask if you are under a maintenance contract with your provider. As a company we normally restrict access to some programming because "we" are liable for the functioning of their system. Now, I have released some systems to let them have full reign..I just have a simple paper they sign saying any programming or other issues are no longer covered and are billable at a T&M rate.

NEC UX5000 is a good system...you even said so in your opening post. I would definitely contact your vendor and get it resolved.

Not the product that is the issue here, but rather the installing company. :nono:

Unless you have over 400 phones, there's no way a UX would cost 100k....

You are correct, this is your system and you should have full access to it. Contact the dealer and make it right.

Several points that I would make are as follows:

1) Sounds like your system isn't fully installed. If not, then you need to get the dealer back out to complete it first.

2) A reputable dealer will provide you with the access codes for maintenance and administration, but they may also require you to go through the "break-in" period before handing over the keys to the kingdom. We don't give our clients any pass codes prior to a 60 day window. During that time we will make any necessary programming changes for the customer at no cost. It allows us to ensure that the system is installed and working properly before the customer starts mucking around with it. Once that period commences and everyone is satisfied that everything is installed and working properly, we request that the client sigh a waiver indicating that they are responsible for the repercussions of any changes that they make on their own before releasing the password.

I agree that the owner should have whatever access they want on the system, but I sure can't imagine why the dealer wouldn't just finish up the programming to make things right. Again, remote access solves the tech on site issue.

And, for $100K on a UX5000 system, I will live in your broom closet for 3 months, program whatever you want, and empty the trash.........
