I know the DSX 40 allows ip phones at a remote office. Do you need a VPN tunnel between the two locations? Another question: Can you have two DSX 40's at seperate locations and use VOIP trunking to do three or four digit dialing between the two?

A VPN tunnel is recommended, but nothing is foolproof when doing VOIP. Supposedly, with the beta firmware (and it is in BETA) you can make SIP TIE lines to connect the systems, but I have not tried that yet.

I honestly would look more at a system that is made to do that (we deal with the IP Office or Mitel 5000 for that application...I think the NEC equivalent is the SV1000).
