I have an Electra Elite 48 with DTU-16D phones. One of the keys on our phones is to access voicemail. When you hit that it asks for your password.

Normally that light only comes on when someone is leaving a voicemail, or when you are accessing your voicemail.

This light is on constantly right now. Our phones and voicemail are working, so I'm not sure what the problem is. Should I be worried?

If someone were calling in and leaving a voicemail, one of the phone lines would also be lit up. They are not.

Could be a call back message is set. Try lifting handset and dial # as see it calls another extension. This may need to be repeated several times.

Normally when I hit voicemail and dial # it takes me to the message you get normally when you call in.

Anyway, I just got back from lunch and the light has disappeared. Not sure what happened or who's phone was the problem.

Read the answer again. The light is NOT a voicemail light, it's a MESSAGE light. VM is a MESSAGE, but so is your boss, the receptionist, etc. They have the technology to set the MESSAGE light too.

You can disable the message function, but you have to be careful that you do not also disable the VM messages.

You can also program a function code or function key to set/release message lights (I used to use this on the 2000IPS to screw with annoying salesmen). Your telephone system dealer can easily set up keys that permit you to turn off a message lamp if you have no messages.
