I am curious about Low Cost or free software firewalls. I used to reccomend Zone Alarm, but I hear that the free version is powered by AdWare.
I use a router and disable the services I don't need, so I wouldn't bother with one for myself, but I do have some clients that would feel safer with one.

I recently downloaded a personal firewall from sygate. It seems to work o.k. and was free. I am no expert on firewalls but you might want to look into it. JBW

tiny software makes a free firewall for your pc called TINY Personal Firewal.

I think Tiny Softwares firewall is only free for a month, but that is the one I ended up reccomending. It seemed easy to set up for the typical home user.
