My emachines M6410 laptop won't turn on. After sending it in under the Office Depot Extended Warranty and having it returned unrepaired and getting the run around from Office Depot, I've determined that the power jack needs to be replaced. Does anyone know what all is involved in doing this? Do I have to replace the whole motherboard?
Up until now, this laptop has been great other than the hinges breaking, which seems to be a very common defect. I would definitely buy another one, but next time I'll get the warranty from the manufacturer instead of the crappy Office Depot one.

Some manufacturers have a downloadable manual, they are usually buried in thier website tho. I would start there.

Retraction about Office Depot Extended Warranty --new provider Warranty Corporation of America, is AWESOME!
I posted last night about my dissatisfaction with an Office Depot Extended Warranty I purchased in June 2004 while they had Service Net as their warranty provider. This morning, after a few well directed emails, countless phone calls, and possibly these blogs, I received a call from a very nice gentleman from WaCA. I'm confident that my laptop will be repaired with no more hassles. Lesson learned - It's not enough to trust the company you're buying an extended warranty from. Check out the company that is actually providing the warranty. In the future, if a company is providing services through Service Net, I will not buy ANYTHING from them. But, given my current experience with Warranty Corporation of America, I will buy from Office Depot again, including extended warranties, as long as they keep Warranty Corporation of America as their provider. Bravo to Office Depot for recognizing a problem and fixing it by changing providers! And hats off to Warranty Corporation of America for doing the right thing and stepping up, even though they didn't have to.

Congrats on getting the situation taken care. I would however, not base your future buying on the warranty provider, but rather Office Depot or such. They will ultimately be the party responsible because they are the ones wanting your business. Had you had additional problems, I think Office Depot would have helped you out. They, nor any other manufactor or retailer, don't want you lose your business.

As far as the power connector goes, it's soldered to the main board, which is buried under everything else. It's a real pain to get to, but easily replaceable once you have the main board out. It's also the number 2 part that fails, after the CDROM drive. Hinges are number 1 or 3 depending on manufacturer.
