Most all remote access applications have vulnerabilities. I highly suggest running them across a VPN Tunnel.

VNC is certainly a lifesaver. We have two offices, and without VNC I'd have to be able to be in two places at once. Also have all support clients install VNC so I can see their problem directly. I remote in from home all the time... last week I was out with a stomach bug, and was able to work on some things just as well as if I had been there. I even tell my customers that we only support either VNC or pcANywhere, when they tell us, "we have remote desktop or gotomypc, can you take a look?" NOPE.

We used Real VNC very extensively before all clients were moved to WindowsXP Pro. Now we use Remote Assistance and Remote Desktop for most things, since they are there by default and we don't need to install anything on new PC's.
