Anyone know of a 35mm Slide Scanner? I've got a bunch of slides that I'll never look at again unless I digitize them. I tried scanning them on a flatbed, but it didn't work.

I saw an ad in a magazine for a USB scanner that came with software for $99.00. Unfortunately, I can't find the ad again. (Beginnings of Old-Timers Disease?)

Anybody have any recommendations?

Looks like it might do the trick. I was hoping for feedback from someone who has used one.

But for $99.00 - I think I can be a sport.

Newegg's only offering (when searching for "slide scanner") is this:

Has some reviews....

And searching for "film scanner" brigns up this one as the cheapest purpose-built unit:

Well, yes and no. I have one, sans power supply. It has a little 35mm carrier that fits in the lid and would scan transparencies and negatives. It came with all the software and I did use it to scan my slides. Of course it is an HP.

The problem is that it is so old, Vista will probably hate it, and it looks like it had been md'd.

I have one of the Canon CanoScan units, and I would recommend it. Mine has the attachement for scanning negatives, and the only drawback is that mine scans only one at a time. Not a big deal unless you have a lot of pictures to go through. The software that comes with the Canon is by far the best of any scanner I've used. Lots of slides and negatives will suffer some scratches and fading. The CanoScan software does (I think) a very good job of fixing these issues automagicaly. I wish I could use the same software with the scanner I use at work.

I have personally used this one. Not an expert, but borrowed it from a professional photographer.

Sam- If you haven't bought something yet. Check into the Polaroid SprintScan 35. They do slides and negatives in one machine. You can get them in SCSI and USB. I've seen them around for only $35. Works esp. well if you have Photoshop

I think I have an old copy of Photoshop somewhere. How crucial is it?
