UT switched to Vista this year on almost all computers. Luckily the office I work in still has XP. All the computer labs run Vista and Office 2007. I still use XP at home and have no plans to change.

I have heard, from an individual who I trust, that Vista is a 'stopgap' and will be replaced by an OS that is much more like XP, in terms of flexibility. He likened it to the relationship between 2000 and XP. Anyone else heard this UNCONFIRMED rumor? John C. (Not Garand)

Interesting, the first time I tried the link, it crashed! Gentle conspiracy? John C. (Not Garand)

My son's computer crashed and burned this weekend. He need windows for compatibility with work (NYC Board of Ed). Went to 3 places and asked about XP. I was told that, in the places that would do it, there's a $300 charge to pull Vista off and put XP on.
He got Vista. 3 GB of Ram and a 640 Mb HD seems the low end to run vista.

Yea, Sam. Our data tech says that it is a real PITA to pull Vista off of a machine. So that you can put XP back on.

Sam, 640MB? Not possible. XP takes two gigs of HD space and Vista needs at least double that.

I'm sure this was a typo (or a new Vista bug); Sam meant 640 gigabytes. Minimally, Vista requires a 20GB hard disk with 15GB of free space. The system requirements for this OS is obscene. After all, we went to the Moon and back with less computer horsepower than kitchen appliances have today.
