I was wondering if anyone here knows if it's possible to bridge the telephone system and computer network from a school's main building (the KSU and networking equipment are there) to an auxiliary building approximately a city block away? Would it require a T1 line from the phone company or something else?
Please advise. Thank you in advance for your help!

Unless you have the ability to install some cable, probably buried, you would need to get a point to point T-1 to handle this. After the t-1, you will have different options. If your PBX supports networking, then you can use that feature, along with a CSU/DSU for drop and insert, to connect both phones and data. If your system does not support networking, you will need to use an anolog or digital extender. Adtran makes some good ones.

For the Data Network you can use a Wireless system. They work well if you have point to point visablity.

The wireless suggestion is your best bet. You basically have two choices here. Frequency hopping or fixed. Use can use a directional antenna or an omni. All of material can be bought new or try e-bay. This is unlicensed spectrum and with the right equipment both voice and data can be sent. Of course you could run fiber. Since you are an educational institution, I,m sure it would not be difficult to get a right-of-way agreement. Hire a contractor and have some fun!
