Here is a dirty secret about the DMS100 local class 5 switch. You can have a T1 going direcly into the switch but your outgoing calls will not show caller ID. If you tell the Service porvider that you must have CLID this is what they do. You terminate the T1 channels to channel banks with FXO cards in the slots. Then you cross connet to the office analog ports (POTS). How can you tell if they did this. Connect a Laptop to one of the channels and make a dial up internet connection and check you BPS rate. You can't get 56K because of the digital to analog to digital conversion in the central office.

PRI's and T1's are different as far as CLID.
For a T1 (24 channels - 56K) only the carrier can send caller ID and most carriers can do this.
For a PRI (23 B and 1 D channel - 64K) the carrier can set it up in a few different ways depending on what you want.
They can give you total control, (you can send out any CLID that you want (must be 10 digits or calls can fail) too with most PBX's - correct any CLID you want, your pbx is like a Central Office and you control it),
or your carrier can take control and send out what they want
or they can send out a default number when you don't send any thing and still give the pbx control when it does send something.

Keep in mind that the CLID your pbx sends out is not the billing number that gets sent out, you will still get billed no matter what CLID you send out.

Name works differently in North America. It works from a national data base. Each carrier submits your number once they control it, and they submit name up to 15 Characters to this database through different companys that I'm sure they have to pay for.
Now when you make a phone call to someone - it is the far end office that first checks to see if the subscriber has caller id with name feature on their phone and if so then does a dip - or lookup into the national database and if a name resides with this number then it will display the name to the subscribers line. So it is up to your carrier to get your name in this database and they all do this as far as i know - you may have to ask and a change can take up to a week - usually happens in 24 hours.

(note: E911 works in the same manner - but uses a different database then CLID.(i believe there are 3 or 4 locations where these databases reside) And again the LEC has to submit your address, name, call back number to this database so when you call 911 they have this information on there screen. This should be tested now and then - I recommend monthly or at least every other month.

Generally if a customer needs Caller ID then we usually provision a PRI. However, the customer equipment requires ISDN signaling and the CPE must be National ISDN 2 compatible for the Caller ID to work.

If I had to guess SSPhone , I would have to say it was dug out of the closet to promote someone's company . Just my guess .
