Ok simple question I hope...
I have a DS3 coming in, pugs into an Adtran MX2800 port A... It also has a port B which is a redundant card for the DS3... How do I split the DS3 cable so I can plug it into port A and B at the same time to actually use the redundancy features?
Later on we will be bringing a 2nd DS3 in for actual circuit redundancy but for now just want to use the built in card redundancy...
So how do I split so I have 2 ins and 2 out cables to plug in instead of just 1 of each?

I just started seeing some MX2820’s myself … BUT as I understand it… The protect (redundant) M13 MUX cards are 1 –to- 1. For every one worker you HAVE to have a one protect DS3 card…. So, to add a 2nd DS3, you have to buy 2 more M13 MUX cards.
I’ve got a big ol’ MX2820 manual here that I just received and haven’t looked at too hard just yet. I’ll do some digging around in it to see if Adtran gives a work-around of some sort to allow less than one –to- one redundancy on the plug-ins but I kind-a doubt it.

Uh oh…. Just looked back again at your original post… You’re looking for info on the MX2800… I was answering about the MX2820…. OPPPS!
I pulled down some info from Adtran’s web-site on the 2800… Sorry, I think ya just got a “one pump chump†there. From what I read it’s one DS3 with redundant M13 module or one DS3 without redundancy…. No two DS3’s. You may want to contact Adtran directly to confirm.

No my question only is the DS3 comes in on BNC connectors to the Adtran.. How do I split the cable before it gets to the Adtran so I can plug a connector into A and B so if card A dies B picks up... One DS3 just need to split the cable

Ohhhh…. I was really reading way TOO much into this wasn’t I… GEES, just like me to make sumthin’ harder than it needs to be.
Uh, unless I’m missing something again… Here’s the REAL simple answer for ya on that question. The redundancy on the two M13 MUX cards is automatic between the two slots. There would be no need to split you’re incoming BNC to connect to it the B-slot for just one DS3 ckt. The unit itself will make the automatic fail-over to the back-up card if needed.

I was laying back, not knowing if something new was out there. I agree with Bryan, I never heard of a mux with two inputs. Auto switch as Bryan stated, it's all internal to the mux. What you're discribing, to me, would require two redundant T-3's. Muxes I've seen have protection at both the T-3 and T-1 level, with 4 T-1's per low speed card.
