I have been asked to troubleshoot a problem with a network. Here is the message I received,

"We are having trouble with our T1 Circuit at this location. We need a cable technician to come out and test the Demarc Extension for our Cisco Router."

Can someone set me in the right direction. What am I looking for?

Hi and welcome mbringas welcome

You can test for loopback at the D-mark. If the D-mark has been extended, you will need to test the cable from end to end with a cable tester. If these terms are foreign to you, you should probably enlist the help of a qualified technician.

Don't know if you have a personal problem with the topic starter or what, but your post was deleted as it had nothing to do with the question at hand.
Thanks,
Bill

thanx for the reply. Turns out, my post was a bit premature. I went onsite and conducted the following:

identified a "shared t1 circuit"
1) Cable tested the demarc extension and the cable run to the switching rack.
2) speed tested data coming directly from the cisco 1800. (500d 250u)
3) speed tested data coming out of each switch.
4) ping /t tested route to offsite dns and dhcp server(50-70ms to dhcp)
5) ping /t route to onsite rtr. (1ms)

any suggestions on what next?

Shared T1? As in a fractionalized one? How many DS0's (channels) are they getting off of it?

Are they having issues with speeds/throughput?
