I have to extend a demarc, install a dsu/csu, to a router then to a switch and modems. It has been 6 yrs. since i last installed this setup. I don't want to look to much like a jackass when I install everything. So I am trying to refresh my memory. So, is the T1 NIU only installed by the service provider? When should Install a loop back or should i always install a loop back and between which points should I use a loop back? Is the trunk a module card that goes in the router? If someone could give a diagram or give me steps on how to install this setup would be greatly appreciative!!

So, is the T1 NIU only installed by the service provider? Yes, the NIU is the Telco demarc.

When should Install a loop back or should i always install a loop back and between which points should I use a loop back? Both the Telco’s NIU and the CSU you’ll be installing are loopable devices, if that’s what it is you asking.

Is the trunk a module card that goes in the router? I don’t even know how to answer that one... “Trunk” is very over used phrase in telecomm. I have no idea what context you’re asking about with that....

If someone could give a diagram or give me steps on how to install this setup would be greatly appreciative!! Sorry, there’s not even close to enough information here to diagram or outline something like that for you.

Most routers (Cisco etc) have a T1 card that goes into the router. I think that's what you mean by 'module card'
If you don't know how to do this work, then don't do it...

Well I have 11 yrs experience in Premises cabling field. I know that demarc extending and installing the router and all that is cake work. I dont have to program anything, just connect and power on so there will be know issue at all just trying to refresh my memory so when i have to deal with the IT guy(which they all try to act like they know everything)I can answer his questions. And CnGRacin you are right about about "trunk" being an over used phrase. I'm just assuming trunk "not trunking"is the modular card which slips into the router, which most likely I will be dealing with a router which has a Trunk with an integrated DSU/CSU. Then from the demarc router it will go to the main router, which will branch off to pix firewall and a ethernet switch. From there it will branch off to the servers, vertical and horizontal cabling. So as my memory recalls its something along those lines. So sorry if i made this much more difficult then what it had to be. I've just been working in the DON, PON, FTTP and FTTH for the past 5 yrs. so just trying to refresh memory in the copper field. LOL thanks again guys.

It would go demarc-router with csu/dsu integrated-firewall-switches...
