Hey all -
I need to extend a PRI from the demarc to an MC which is nearly 2000' away. There is a Cat3 house cable in place but I think the distance is far too great to use it. The house cable also has at leat on transition point where it goes from OSP to ISP as the demarc is in a different building than the MC. Any suggestions?

Have you searched "extending t-1" in this forum. There are some decent discussion of this subject.
We use an Adtran Ace CSU to test with and it has some dip switches from, I think--33ft to 655ft---but that's it. I have no experience with 2000 ft..
Is the Cat 3 25pr or is it a bunch of 4 pairs?? I remember that in one discussion someone said that "transmit" & "receive" should be separated.
We just moved a system that had a PRI extended about 350 ft or so over a 50 pr. It's working fine.

655' is the max on T-1s without a repeater. Search the forum, it's been covered before.

Well to do it correctly. Either get the LEC to move the NID and re-condition the line or you'll need several repeaters as Sam said.
With that all said I have seen them work just fine extented over long distances. Just isolate the transmit and receive no matter how you do it.

I used a pair of Omnitron fiber-to-T1/E1 converters at the San Bernardino State University bookstore successfully. It HAD to happen that way because of severely degraded copper. I was fortunate to have a spare pair of single-mode fiber fed from the demac (basement of the library almost a half mile from the bookstore) and the approval to purchase what amounted to about a grand in hardware.
Barring that, I'd take Bill's suggestion and get the NID moved.
