hey guys i need help identifying t1 pairs on a 66 block thats from the dmarc to the customers suite. basically all the pairs on the 66 block are taken up. and a lot of it is t1 connections. its very hard to run a new run. (not impossible) but a lot of work. to the suite. my question is how can i tell if a t1 is in place (pins 1,2 and 4,5). i would like to remove old t1 connections that are no longer being used and put my a new t1 from the smart jack and connect them to those pins i removed. there are several pairs that dont have marks on them (plastic red covers on the 66 block to identify as t1) i know that a telephone line can be identified by simply placing a toner and checking for a light. but im weary of removing any of this pairs on this block because this building is so highly ranned with t1s and wouldnt want to knock anyone down.. especially since all this are logistics companys for lax. is there such a thing as checking a t1 with a multimeter to determine if the t1's cross connects are still active. help please. o i should add the 66 block that are completely full are on the last and 2nd phone rooms of 3 not at the dmarc.

How about starting with the dead cards at the smart jack and tracing the jumpers back to the feed cable?

Pull a dead card out of the housing, then place your toner on the pair(s) within the FAC side of the housing and trace them back (like you would with a dialtone)to the 66 block.

If you have access to a Tberd or Sunrise tester you can set it for bridge mode and clip onto the pins in question. If it's a live T1 you will see traffic and you shouldn't disrupt the circuit. If you don't see anything on the pins then you can safely tone them out

Unless you work for the Telco, "Thou shall not open the housing nor pull smartjacks from the housing". Instead look at the power, L1 and L2 or Loop lights on the smart jack. Green lights are usually associated with Good circuits. Red are usually associated with connected circuits that are in some form of trouble or partialy disconnected. No lights at all mean a dead circuit.

If the smartjack housing has all the circuit ID's labeled on the cover or side may I suggest calling the 800 number for Hi Cap testing and ask them which ones are valid circuits.
