I have a Zyxel router sitting behind my cable router. I have a 12 pack of static IPs off of the cable router. My Zyxel hands out DHCP address to my network PCs. After a day or two my internet pages load really slow. I go turn off the Zyxel router and turn it back on and I'm back to full speed for a day or so. Internally there seems to be no speed problem. What could cause the router to get bogged down and have to be reset?

Is the cable equipment an actual router or just a modem?
If you have an old linksys or netgear lying around, switch out the zyxel and see if you duplicate the problem.

Mark:
As crazy as this sounds, you're not alone. That is a known problem with Zyxel routers. What I have never heard is a good explanation for it. Some say it comes from having an excessive amount of TCP ports open. I know they are very susceptible to the problem when running VPN tunnels.
Since it's a known problem you might try contacting Zyxel support via email. Sorry, wish I had more info.
Last minute thought. As a work around you might put a timer on it. Some of the old Birch T1 IADs wouldn't reconnect at midnight when they were running the old software until you unplugged it and plugged it back in. We would just put a timer in it to kill it for one minute during the night and then restart. Kinda bulky but might make life easier until you can get them to flash the firmware or whatever the fix will be.

Mark Its not your router I have at least 10 customers on charter all are experiance the same problems some have cisco & some zyxel. Best internet experiance are the ones useing t-1 channels these are hotels were traffic varys and I have to say even novox does better as a isp, at&t & USlec even better. the T-1 customers even with 12 channels have less problems.

Does resetting their internal router help them like it does me?
