Hello.
I am wondering if there is a network setting or download application which can limit bandwidth usage of 1 particular computer for 1 particular download.
Here is the situation, there is a company which has a data T1 which is more then enough for 99.9% of the time of their bandwidth use during normal a certain time, there is a daily large download which normally takes 5 minutes. However, this download is hogging the entire T1's bandwidth and killing the internet connection for the other users.
This 1 single daily download is killing it for everyone only during the period of time of the download. Once this download is done, everything is fine.
So if there are any ways that this 1 download can be limited, I would sure appreciate it.
Thanks for your help!
P.S. The download has to be done at a certain time of the day and can't be delayed until midnight or anything like that.

QoS is your answer. What type of gear do they have? Depending on the gear you are running, time based QoS is entirely doable.
Steps needed to configure. 1. Define the traffic (NBAR is the easiest way to do this). 2. Apply a policy to the traffic (egress or ingress)

Hi.
I have a sonicwall firewall/vpn device. I think its called the 360 model. I believe it does have some QOS options on there but would activating the QOS overall slow down the network because it would have to scan every single packet first or does this happen pretty seamlessly?
Thanks.

I'm not up to speed on Sonic wall, but on a Cisco router you would tag this traffic as it enters the router and "police" the rate on the interface from which it leaves.
On a Cisco router rate limiting does not seem to consume too many extra CPU cycles.
