Got a customer who was proposed an outdoor-rated AP solution. I am to compete with "the other guy's" bid.

From what I've gleaned, there are exactly TWO things that the customer truly wants: good wireless coverage and hardware that's as invisible as possible.

In my view, putting a weatherproof unit outdoors is stupid. Why make a box visible (even if it's faux painted) when it could be just on the other side of a warehouse wall? My thinking is that I mount an omni-directional stick in an inconspicuous area that still offers effective coverage.

Knowing MY take on the project, the fact that there are two buildings involved (perhaps 100 feet apart) and that the app is to have roaming iPads continue to have unbroken coverage from building to building...what might YOU recommend?

We started using the Ubiquiti Networks Bullet2HP recently for wireless scanning. I can connect to it with my Macbook from 650 meters away (line of sight) with no problem. You'd have to pick an antenna to mount on this unit. We have an omni unit and a couple sector antennas. I can find out their info if you're interested.

They ain't cheap but they work really, really well. You would only need one in each bldg I think. Outdoors they have a range of 1/2 mile line of sight.

I have them installed at a large RV resort. They have client isolation as well as typical logon security and they run at 54mbps.

One last pass, guys. If I decide to go with an outdoor rig, I'd like to know what y'all think about the Cisco Aironet 1310G.

I appreciate the four other choices I've been given (one of which has two votes); I'll give them more weight than this Cisco, which runs in the $800+ range, but I'd still like the opinion of anyone that's worked with them.

I've used the Aironet in other applications and actually find that I've had to tone down the transmitter because of it's long/wide broadcast range.
