What is your recommendation for a new flat panel TV? I should say that HiDef and 3D are not at the top of my list of features. My main interests are long-life and low power consumption. This will be in the bedroom and no, not for porn, although......  Plasma LCD LED Is Plasma is power hungry and "may be short lived". (Just what I've read.) Does LED only refer to the 'backlight source for LCD'?

My wife just picked up a 32" Visio LED tv for our fireplace room a week ago. I don't know much about the technical aspects of it, but the picture is sharp in HD, light as a feather (14lbs). It has an external power brick just like a laptop computer (runs on 19v). The audio is crappy at best, so i'll need to hook up some type of external sound to it.
If I learn anything more, I'll pass it along.

There are a lot of variables when picking a TV. If your looking for some super advice on TV's head over to "https://www.highdefforum.com/" they helped me pick my last TV. I can give you some advice too. Yes. LED just refers to the backlight technology. LCD's and LED's both use the same technology to render the picture, just different lighting techniques behind it. In regards to power consumption it goes LED, LCD, Plasma. Plamsa uses the most electricity. In regards to quality of picture it goes LCD, LED, Plasma. Plasma produces the best picture. In regards to price it goes LCD/Plasma, LED. LED costs the most. As far as life expectancy goes it varies. The brand name plays a big role in how long you want your TV to last. In hindsight I wish I bought the similarly price Plasma. LCD's just don't give the picture quality that a plasma can deliver. A LED TV can proboably match a plasma in quality, but definitly not in price. Even with power consumption taken into account I would prefer the Plasma at this point in time.

John....The wife and I bought a Samsung 46" LED..and we love it..picture is great..tv only weighs 30 some pounds and is about an 1" thick. My son in law is an electrical eng. and he recommended it to me for quality..so far no complaints...he said it will not use much juice and i'm cheap...

We've got a 55" LG LED and love it. Ours has got a 240 hz refresh which makes watching sports exceptional.

I went to Best Buy, there they had displays of the same brand tv in all three forms so you could actually see the difference in picture quality. Once we knew what we wanted, we shopped around for the best price, which incidentally was significantly cheaper than the BB price. Topic moved to The Phone Booth
