Stumbled across a TELINK 1250i MP3 player I want to give to a lawyer friend, but don't want to pay MOH company just to download public domain music. Has anyone downloaded to these before? Or, can I play like an NPR radio station without having to worry about licensing fees?
Thanks for your time; I'm in Illinois Chicagoland

That's not just a player. It's linked (or used to be linked) to some remote server over the internet that downloads the program material. Premier makes a similar unit. They are used in stores with multiple locations so that all the locations can be updated from the "home office" over the internet. I really don't think it's going to do you any good.

And there isn't really any public domain music that you would want to use for MOH.

You lawyer friend has plenty of money. I'm sure he can afford a regular player and have a MOH production professionally done to make him look good (or as good as an attorney can be made to look  ).

Just be sure to get your money upfront...

NPR also plays copyrighted music. So the answer is no.

Not completely free, but there is royalty free music available (you pay for the initial download/CD)

or if classical music is acceptable, get a competent amateur musician to play something from a score which is itself out of copyright.

I had a lawyer / Conservative state senator who had a radio for MOH tuned to local NPR station which plays classical music during the week (I didn't set it up , just took it over )

I get a angry call on Monday "what have you got playing on our phones "

turns out he was working Saturday , put a Constituent on hold and the local gay and lesbian show was playing ..they weren't impressed

he quickly found the funds for a message on hold unit

Great replies. Never gave much thought about MOH until lawyer was involved. Funny story about Gay show. Thanx for your time.

There you go. Just goes to show it's not expensive to do it the right way.
