Anybody got the recipe to get a modem working on a DOS pc. I cannot get P
PC Anywhere to see it.
This is a Small Office Lite with monitor and keyboard. The modem is a generic V.90 shipped from King Technologies new in the box

If I'm not mistaken the small-office lite doesn't have enough RAM to be able to be a host for PC Anywhere. Sorry, but you will probably have to use the supervisor mailbox 70 to do remote programming. It works pretty well for minor changes. Good luck.

No, this is a PC not the gray lite. I have modems in both though. Just can't get Pc Anywhere to see it yet.

I tried 1. I thought at one time you should disable something in the bios to make the modem work. Hum!!! Or disable the com ports.
I am not serial integration on this site, so I do not need the db-9 com1 and 2

In the last few years Comdial/Keyvoice has dropped usung pc anywhere and is now using
Keylink software.

Since you say you have a keyboard and monitor, log into the VM and shut the VM down and go to DOS.

Do a DIR *. command and see if you have a directory labeled as \aw if you do then it has pc anywhere on it. If not then look for a directory labeled \remote. if you have a directory labeled remote you have Keylink.

Both remote programs have a line or two in the autoexec.bat file in the root directory to enable the modem for auto answer.

IF you have an old copy of procomm, you might try loading it to query the modem to make sure your problem is not your modem jumper/pnp settings. Then you should be able to force the settings on PC Anywhere. I always had luck telling PCA that it was a US Robotics 9600 regardless of the brand.
You don't want to connect higher than 9600 on a dos based program anyway.

You may have an Address or IRQ conflict.

When reseting the system look at the display during the Power On test. It should show the com ports and the Hex address used.
IE: Com 1 03F8 and Com 2 02F8.
And also make sure that in the VM program that you do not have the serial integration turned on.

In the autoexec.bat file there should be these lines:

cd\aw
aw_host /m:a

(the switch /m:a is important and must be in there )

These lines appear before the lines to start the V Mail program.

If pc anywhere is configured correctly when the computer starts running after DOS loads there should be a small splash screen showing PC anywhere is loaded and the initialization of the modem.

If this fails then the Bios of the PC is not seeing the modem, and PC anywhere drops out and the V Mail program starts anyway.

If this is an external modem you should have some LED's on the modem and you should see them flash when the PC trys to innitialize it.

As stated above if you can find a copy of Procomm use it to see if you can locate the com port that the modem is on.
