I have a customer who has a comdial DSU II and when they answer the phone on the first three lines they sometimes do not hear anyone on the other end but the person calling can hear them. This was happening periodically but now it is getting more frequent. I want to say the DSU is going bad, possibly from electrical spikes? dont know. I have not found anything as of yet that might be causung this problem. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks for the input. Jim

First thing I'd do is go to the demarc and check loop current to eliminate the line. You wouldn't think you'd have bad loop current on 3 lines, but you don't know what kind of telco equipment you're going through.

If the DSU II were less resillient to power problems than it is, I would say that the unit is going. It very well may be. But I would check at the demarc like Bill suggested before replacing the DSU.
I am not sure, but I think that the DSU does group its lines into groups of 3 on the board.... I hope that ComdialGuy chimes in... He would know for sure. If they are in groups of three, then it is very likely that your DSU is toasted.

They come in groups of 4 on the cards. 408 - 816 - 1632

Of course you are right, I don't know why I was thinking they went 308, 616, 1232... I must need more coffee.
And since he is right, then it should not be the cabinet unless it is also ocurring on line 4.

Is it occuring at all sets or just the primary answering position? And don't listen to them telling you it's everywhere, verify it yourself. It could be the reed switch is slow or failing on the phone set

Paul,
I don't think you need more coffee, you just need to put more sugar in it. [Linked Image from sundance-communications.com]

One way transmission was a problem on some products but I don't remember it ever being on the DSUII. The next time you have one way transmission try putting the call on hold and taking it back. If the DSUII is going bad you will now have two way transmission. If the lines have weak loop current they may drop off.

I might have found the problem. I had the customer call their office phone from her cell phone and while I could not hear her she could hear someone else on at the other end. It appears that thier phone lines are crossed or have cross-talk with another business. The voice we heard on the other end was not from the customers office. I called Verizon (the local provider)and put in a trouble call. Thanks for all the help guys.
