I was just wondering if if any tech knows how to get CallerID and SMDA working together. I have has answer of that it will NOT work, to split the pins on the Com 2 jack, to change the smda to com 4) HELP!
This DsuII has 4 com ports. Com 1 admin, com2 data (callerID, smda), com3 Voice mail, com4 unknown.
The external caller ID unit is working on com 2. But we need the Call records SMDA getting logged in a computer. Having the Name and phone number on the SMDA would be NICE. (the obvious reason we bought callerid). Up until now even Comdial doesn't have an idea.. Maybe its the tech working on it .. but nobody came up with a working solution..
Thank You Joe

Take the TD (Pin 4)from Com 2 send it to your RD on your printer and tap into the SG (pin 5) from Com 2 and take it to your SG on your printer. remember to leave SG hooked up to the Caller ID box unit as well it needs it too.

Ohio is right. WE take com2 out to a bisquit jack and split transmit and receive and sg out to two seperate jacks for smda and caller ID. ------------------ Business Phone Systems

OK... Can you tell me if this arrangement works for just a PRINTER or will it work on a computer.. I think Comdial said that a computer needs to transmit and receive data and a printer does not need the communication to take place..
The ideal situation would be the computer SMDA software or just hyper terminal .. but if it is just a printer Ill have to live with it!

Computer doesnt need to transmit anything, you would simply be sending info to the serial port. If your tech has a book, this is clearly spelled out.

3-hole plate 3 usoc jacks 1 surface box. Label each jack-printer-cid-system. Jumper as follows; system jack T-1 to cid jack T-1 R-1 system jack R-1 to printer jack T-1 system jack T-2 to cid jack T-2 R-2 and printer jack R-2. If you can follow this, this how I have mine connected and it works just fine. Watch out for straight-thru and crossover cords. Simple serial communication is just that simple. Transmit, receive and signal ground. Take care of the ground first.
