When I get into the automated attendant area in the dx-80 I can specify the legnth of the message I want to record, but when I press the record, button it bleeps a tone at me, the same thing happens when I press the play. Any help would be appreciated.

It sounds like you are doing this from Keylink?
If so the text line on your screen tells you to call in on VM port one to record.
It's easier to do the recordings from the supervisor MB.
If that's not it, you are going to have to state your situation with more clarity.
