I have an FX system that is coming up "no communication" on all of the system phones. When I turn the unit on the only board that lights up is the services board none of the other LED's light up. I have tried to master clear the system and connect with VMMI and hyperterminal I have tried all of the port settings and I cannot get the computer to talk to the system. None of the phones work. Do you think I need a new cabinet or is there something that I am missing.

Check to make sure you have 4 LEDs on the backplane. Pull all your boards except CPU/Services and see if can log in. If you have 4 LEDs and only the CPU in and you can'y log in you're probably looking at a CPU or Services board issue.

Hi,
Great advice. I would bet on the cpu but could be services board.

I took all of the boards out and there are no LED's on the backplane at all. This FX system is from 2001. It is an older one. I took all of the boards out and tried to connect with VMMI and Hyperterminal and neither of them would connect. Would it be best to buy a new cpu board and try that. Or is there a sure fire way to find out if that is the problem. Please let me know asap. thanks, nick

Is this an FXT or FXII? FXT had a hinged door on the side with a keyed lock. The power LEDs would be on the front panel. Again check for 4 power LEDs with only the CPU and Services installed. Was this system turned off for an extended period of time? If so you may have lost your key codes.

It is an FXII it has the 4 screws to hold the front cover on. The only led's on there are the 3 right on the front of the Services board there are no led's that I can see on the backplane anywhere.

The system took a hit of power and was off for a period of time. But even if I lost my codes I should still be able to connect with something right?

You should be able to Hyper term to the CPU even without codes. With VMMI it would say you have logged into a system without valid codes. You probably have a CBX early version cabinet. If you can't get a hyperterm screen then you either have a CPU,SErvices(not likely) or power supply issue.

WHen the power comes on if I have all of the boards connected the phones lines short out. when they 25pr cable is connected to it and the displays read no communication and give the rev # and a bunch of other numbers. I probably need a cpu board then. My next questions is will I need new key codes for it and can I get them not being a dealer anymore.
