I now have a two port Debut VM working with a DSUII J0816 (s/w 5C). The Debut VM is at Ext 24 and 25 and all extensions are controlled via serial integration. When a voicemail is left on any station's mailbox, the appropriate message waiting light goes on at the station's phone as it should. But for each message light that is lit, the DSS light on Ext 11's phone flashes red, as if station 11 had set the message waiting light, not voicemail. So if ext 12, 14 and 17 have messages waiting, ext 11's phone has the DSS light for ext 12, 14 and 17 flashing red. No other extension has this behavior, and I can not see any differences in the setup of station 11 from any other station.

Any ideas where to look?

That sounds familiar, but I can't put my finger on the solution. Have you done a button query on the buttons, to see how they are programmed?

Button query on ext 11's phone shows that each programmable button is assigned as a DSS button to other extensions just as all the other phone's programmable buttons are.\

This one extension is still behaving as if it is setting all the message waiting lights rather than voicemail. The owner of that extension gets annoyed to see all his lights flashing every morning until everyone checks their voicemail messages. Any ideas or comments would be greatly appreciated.

Take the debut out of the equation and send/set a phone to phone message.

Good idea. I disconnected the Debut. I sent messages from station 18 to 12, 18 to 11, 11 to 18. All functioned properly (message light on receiving station lights, sending station's DSS light for the receiving station flashes). Ext 11 did NOT light up when message sent from 18 to 12.

So, I guess that suggests that the Debut is doing something to make station 11's DSS lights go on when it sends a message light to another station.

Wild guess here: make sure Message Desk (may not be exact name) is not enabled. Do a System COS printout, to check.

Also, I would recommend disabling Originate Message Waiting on all stations except the VM ports.

I turned off "Central Message Desk" for the system, and turned off "Message Wait Originate" for ext 11. Same problem as described above.

Backup your database. Master clear the system. Do minimal programming for VM integration only. Test again.

Then master clear again.

Reload your database. Test again.

By the way, do your master clearing from the phone. I've been told by tech support, in the past, to master clear from your laptop, then a couple more times from the phone.

You basically want to determine if it's something in your database or not. Don't forget to backup BOTH the COS database and the SDIAL database. It also wouldn't hurt to capture a full COS printout, for reference.

That sounds scary. But I'll give it a try the next time I have some time with no one in the office. Thanks for the advice.
