1) I bought a red 2565 a while back on ebay. The faceplate was horrible, looked like someone had dipped it in a bucket of red paint. So I took a beige faceplate from another set I had, but I'd like it to be authentic, mostly because red 2565's seem to be pretty hard to come by. I always thought the faceplates were grey, but someone told me the red 2565's had red faceplates.

2) My next project: MOH. I have an ITT 601A KSU. MOH cards come up on Ebay every 3 months or so, I bid on one last week but got beaten out.

Thanks -
Matt

Matt, It's been a WHILE since I touched a 601, but I don't remember any provision for a MOH card in the 601 chassis. The ITT 403 (?) MOH card and I think all the other brands, won't just slot into a 400 card slot! I'm going to have to dig around for my 601 practice. But, I think you are going to have to lay your hands on an auxillary card box. And you are asking for more than the 601 power supply can provide, so you'd better get an auxillary power supply while you are at it. Hindsight being what it is, too bad you didn't start with a 501! About twice as tall and twice as wide, but the power supply will support a LOT more than you can reasonably put in the cabinet! And, of course, you'd have the standard space consuming MDF, rather than landing the cables in the cabinet. I think the last time I touched a 601 was when I lived in KC! Left there in '89. John C. Thanks! There's definetely a slot for a MOH card.... I see you've seen my intercom ordeal (thanks for the cap. tips); I've just about got the manual in memory as a result. It's just below the last line card slot, and just above the intercom slot. An aux MOH box would be fine as well; as that's the direction I went with the intercom, might as well have a family. Plus this would give me a great reason to put up some cross connetcs (I currently terminate everything inside the KSU). I think I agree about the 501 vs. 601; at the time I bought it all I knew was I wanted a 5625 in which I could make the lamps light/wink; didn't know a thing about KSUs, or even that they existed at all. That was 2-3 years ago, over the last few weeks my interest in the system has peaked again. I'm not too concerned about the power supply - the sad truth is I live alone, the only time more than 1 line is in use is when I'm on one line and someone calls on the other (actually now that I think about it, this is the reason my interest in the system peaked again - I started telecommuting from work, and added a second CO line). Of course I have no idea what is drawing current even when all the phones are on hook and idle.

You lived in KC? Nothing much has changed. A few new buildings downtown, more suburban sprawl in Overland Park and Lee's Summit; just about the only thing that has changed (for the worst, IMO) is everyone now seems to want to pretend KC is equivelant to NY or LA, or even Dallas or Minneapolis. ALOT of pretentiousness, IMO. People just don't seem to understand that no matter how many Starbucks or Nieman Marcuses they put in... they are STILL IN KANSAS. (Missouri if they are lucky/intelligent). smile

Anyway, if you want a laugh (or cry) tune in at 12 CDT to watch the Chiefs get their a***** handed to 'em, once again!

I'll PM you about old home week. To the MOH card, are you looking for a 403? I think I've got 1 around here somewhere. John C. (Not Garand)

Yep, looking for a 403. At keast the manual lists it as: 000403-00A.

Thanks a lot - let me know what you want for it (assuming you can find it) - I know for a fact you can get at least $31 on ebay for it (That's the bid that beat me out).

Thx
Matt

I have had success with a careful application of Krylon spray paint.

If the phone is an original Western Electric 2565, the original faceplate was transparent, and rear-painted. Western Electric TT phones were designed so that the faceplate was a contrasting shade versus the housing color. Other makes used the same color for the plate and housing. The housing is Cherry Red, color suffix -53, and the faceplate is Muted Red, color suffix -69. If it is a later WE or other make, the faceplate was either molded in color all the way through, or painted.

Hey all -

Thanks for the tips. I guess I could try to paint it myself, or have it painted; but the real problem is I stole the faceplate from an ITT set.... not at all the same "style" as what's on a WE. I'm pretty sure even if it had a very good paint job I wouldn't be happy with it. As for the make/model/year, All I know is it has a date stamp of 5/73 on it, model 2565 HK.

Here's a couple images:

Thanks all!

- Matt

PS:

If you havn't been following my intercom thread - take a look at the pic of the front of the set and see if you can tell what's wrong with it (besides the faceplate).

I know that I have some charcoal face plates for this set with the Bell logo on them if that will help.
